FLAME DATABASE ON COMBUSTION OF EXPLOSIVES AND PROPELLANTS
Version 2.42
INTRODUCTION
Database FLAME is a powerful computer-aided tool to be used on a work station of
a specialist on combustion of explosives and propellants. A researcher has an
opportunity to look for and examine the information on combustion of numerous
energetic materials, their physico-chemical and explosive properties, as well as
to perform comparative analysis by linear and mass burning rates both in tabular
and graphic forms.
The database contains unique experimental data on combustion of
more than 700 explosives and more than 300 propellants with wide bibliography.
No special knowledge or programming skill are needed to operate FLAME.
SUMMARY OF FLAME FEATURES
Database FLAME is based on index principle. On each individual explosive,
composition or propellant, FLAME has the "card". If an energetic
material has two or more data sources obtained from different authors or in
various conditions, FLAME may have several cards for such a material.
Every card has the individual absolute number according to the
order of entering into the database. The card consists of up to three linked
tables. In the main table one can find 14 for an explosive and 16 for a
propellant lines with name, structural and brutto-formulas of energetic
material, fundamental physico-chemical, energetic and explosive properties. The
table also hasa section for additional information, which can be filled in a
text form with optional data.
The second table contains parameters of the burning rate law,
i.e. the dependence of the material's burning rate on pressure. It may be
segmented by up to 15 pressure intervals.
The third table presents experimental burning rate data at
different pressure. You can use data from two last tables to examine the burning
rate of energetic material in graphic form.
The graphic representation of data on combustion may be
displayed on the screen by user's command from all tables, so one can reproduce
a graph instantly. FLAME does not store graphic images.
DB FLAME contains the list of bibliographical references with
general numbering. The reference numbers can be found for every property, every
segment of burning rate law, experimental data set, name, structural formula and
additional information.
In FLAME the whole array of cards is classified by molecular
structure attributes to large groups - "classes". For some classes of
energetic materials the two-level additional subdivision is taken. This allows
to simplify searching for necessary data. The user of DB FLAME has wide
possibilities in seeking and analyzing information wanted. You may operate FLAME
with menus and functional keys. The list of active commands available by
functional keys is shown in special message line in the bottom of the screen.
The only command "Help" which may often be essential and can be always
executed with F1 key is nowhere showed. You can press F1 in any table or graph
as soon as you need a prompt.
DB FLAME grants you the possibilities of adding new information
(entering new cards) and data editing. Data are protected from unauthorized
modification or erasing. When you want to fulfill such an operation for the
first time during a session, FLAME asks you for the password.
CONCLUSION
FLAME 2.42 version is a computer aided reference manual on combustion explosives
and propellants. Possibilities of burning rate prognosis on properties and
composition of energetic material are intended to be included to further
versions. Also dependences of burning rate vs different combustion parameters of
both experimental and analytical nature will be presented: strand density,
adiabatic flame temperature, low flame temperature limit, heat of combustion,
material composition. Also the number of materials properties will be extended. |
